What Is the Talking Library?

The Nashville Talking Library is an audio reading service broadcasting round-the-clock readings to individuals who cannot read normally printed matter because of a visual or physical impairment, or because of a reading disability. Volunteers read from such local publications as The Tennessean, The City Paper, The Nashville Scene, Business Nashville, neighborhood newspapers, regional papers; bestsellers, mysteries, children's books; more than 80 magazines; and feature programs on gardening, exercise, pet care, and more. We have listeners in 40 counties in Middle Tennessee.

Listeners can hear the radio service in a variety of ways. Most listen via special receivers which we provide free of charge. Patients in most local hospitals can hear the Talking Library on the in-house broadcast systems. And still others listen Monday through Saturday (daytime hours) to the SAP band on WNPT (Channel 8).
