Susan Sarandon

Happy birthday to actress & activist Susan Sarandon, born October 4th, 1946!

Oscar winner Susan Sarandon has been working in films and television since 1970.  She grew up in New York, the eldest of nine children.  Sarandon received a BA in Drama from the Catholic University of America.  In 1969, she went to a casting call for the motion-picture Joe with her then husband Chris Sarandon. Although he did not get a part, she was cast.

After receiving five Oscar nominations, Sarandon finally won best actress for her role in Dead Man Walking.  She may be best known for her role as Janet in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Sarandon has also contributed narration to a number of documentary films, many dealing with causes that are important to her. 

Sarandon has remained an activist throughout her career and has taken part in many political protests.  In 1999, she was appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She and partner Tim Robbins have been outspoken on many political issues.   Sarandon met Robbins during the filming of Bull Durham.  They have two children.
